Bio:

Backstory – Mortal Life
Born Vivian Gustafaria in the mid 1800s in an area that would soon become Southern Italy, she was the youngest of five, another mouth to feed for already impoverished parents. Her mother suffered from what would tonight be diagnosed as Manic-Depressive disorder, and she made no secret of the fact that she detested her youngest daughter, an unwanted and unplanned pregnancy. For the crime of being born she suffered at the hands of her siblings as well, as they picked up on the animosity directed at her from their mother. The entire family toiled in the sulfur mines to make ends meet.

When Vivian was eight she witnessed the destruction of her family in an explosion in the mine. She watched them be wrenched apart limb from limb, a bloody and horrific end. Hours after the explosion Vivian was found covered in gore, rocking silently back and forth on the ground near her mother’s mangled body. At this time her mind began to disassociate, another conscious forming to take over so that Vivian need not remember the tragedy of her family’s violent death.

Vivian was sent to live with her mother’s sister in modern-night Venice. Her aunt was a cold woman of the same stock as Vivian’s mother, abusive towards her niece. She’d lock her in a closet for days at a time with no light, no food, no water. But Vivian wasn’t alone in the closet. During the nights she had a visitor, a cousin that liked to strip her naked and touch her.

She doesn’t remember getting out. One night she was locked in the closet; the next she knew she was traveling with a band of gypsies that called her Isabella. The periods of memory loss became more and more frequent. Vivian knew that there was something wrong with her, that another thing inside of her was taking over. She went away inside her mind where it didn’t hurt, where she didn’t have to think about her family’s mangled bodies or cousins fumbling in the dark.

Isabella was as different from Vivian as night from day. She had a presence to her, a sway in her hips and a wickedness to her smile that drew men in like mosquitoes to blood. Charming and flirtatious by turn, she used and abused anyone who was stupid enough to consider getting close to her, urged on by a malicious streak inside of her.

She married a rich man in 1879, a doctor that studied human nature and the mind. Dr. Romano hosted various colleagues in their home over the months, and though Isabella had fooled her husband into thinking she was completely normal, one of these colleagues picked up on her condition soon after meeting her. The voices demanded that she join him in undeath.

So she did.
